Verona Park Conservancy

The Verona Park Conservancy is a public, non-profit organization that is dedicated to working with the Essex County Parks Department and the public to maintain, beautify and improve Verona Park’s appearance and facilities for the enjoyment of present and future generations.

With many visitors each year on its 54 acres, Verona Park is one of the most frequently visited parks in Essex County. To help manage and restore the park, Conservancy members and volunteers are often seen cleaning the park, weeding and pruning the gardens, planting trees, shrubs and flowers and helping to protect Verona Lake from pollution, siltation and algae.

The Verona Park Conservancy Monthly Meetings are held the 3rd Thursday of each month from 7:30 – 8:30 PM in the Verona Park Boathouse. All are welcome to join.

Sustainable Verona

Sustainable Jersey is a certification program for municipalities in New Jersey that want to go green, save money and take steps to sustain their quality of life over the long term. Sustainable Jersey towns and cities implement practices that lead to cost savings in energy, water and garbage bills. The program helps communities improve efficiency, cut waste and stimulate their local economies. Registered towns get special priority access and notification of incentives and grants, and are eligible for the Sustainable Jersey Small Grants Program which has funded $795,000 worth of sustainable projects since 2009 across New Jersey.

Local government participation is strictly voluntary and never mandated. Sustainable Jersey is New Jersey based and consensus driven. Certification actions are developed through an ongoing process of discussion and research that includes the participation of over 150 New Jersey leaders, experts, and organizations including state agencies, universities, non-profit organizations, and business leaders.

Verona is a Sustainable Jersey certified community–one of only 180 in the state. Verona achieved Sustainable Jersey certification at the bronze level. Certified towns are an outstanding group of municipalities that are making important contributions toward the long-term goal of a sustainable New Jersey and world.
